Judd Trump admits 'luck' in beating Ronnie O'Sullivan

Bristol's Judd Trump admitted he was lucky to beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the second round of the UK Championship.

The 22-year-old world number seven beat the four-time champion 6-5 to secure his third-round place in York.

But Trump told BBC Radio Bristol: "I didn't feel like I was in the match today, but it's always pleasing to know that my B game got me through.

"I got a little bit lucky to still be in the match, it's always nice to be in the last stages."

Trump has enjoyed an impressive year since beating Mark Selby in the China Open final in April.

He reached the final of the World Championship in May, losing narrowly by only three frames to John Higgins, before overcoming China's Ding Junhui to win the Players Tour Championship event at the South West Snooker Academy in August.

But after his win over O'Sullivan, Trump said he had plenty to improve on.

"I think I got outplayed, my safety wasn't great and that's what I need to improve on today," he said.

"In that final frame you just want one good chance to get in, and I potted one long red and kind of messed up straight away really.

"From then on you're just hoping for another chance. And today, fortunately for me, his shot didn't go in.

"It wasn't pretty, but I'm just relieved to still be in the tournament. Normally if you play like that against Ronnie you're going to get beaten."
