John Higgins put his surprise UK Championship loss to Mark King behind him to beat Jack Lisowski 4-1 in the Scottish Open first round.
A fluked brown helped Lisowski, ranked 38, take the opener but Higgins, beaten in the final last year by Marco Fu, reeled off four frames to progress.
Fellow Scots Stephen Maguire, Chris Totten, Scott Donaldson and Ross Vallance also went through.
But Graeme Dott lost 4-2 to Rory McLeod while Fu and Judd Trump won.
Defending champion Fu beat Welshman Duane Jones 4-0 and world number three Trump overcame Robin Hull by the same margin.
Totten defeated Sam Baird 4-1, Robert Carlisle lost 4-2 to Vallance, Donaldson beat Josh Boileau by the same score and Maguire triumphed 4-0 against Alex Borg.
Six Chinese players - Yu De Lu, Fang Xiongman, Zhou Yuelong, Xiao Guodong, Zhang Yong and Li Hang - all won on Monday, while English veteran Mike Dunn, 46, whitewashed Adam Duffy 4-0.
Northern Irishman Gerard Greene, a 4-2 winner over Zhao Xintong, is also through, while Stuart Carrington beat 16-year-old Jackson Page 4-1.
Newly crowned UK champion Ronnie O'Sullivan begins his campaign against Michael Georgiou on Tuesday at 13:00 GMT.
