English Open: Judd Trump wins title after fighting back to win 9-7 against Zhang Anda

Trump's last ranking title win was at the Turkish Masters in March 2022

Judd Trump took six successive frames to win the English Open with a 9-7 final victory over Zhang Anda.

The Englishman had fought back to win his semi-final against John Higgins and had to do the same against the Chinese player ranked 57 in the world.

"Zhang played unbelievably and probably deserved to win. He was the better player," said Trump, 34.

It was the Masters champion's 24th ranking title and first since the Turkish Masters 19 months earlier.

Zhang had never been past the quarter-finals of a ranking event before.

But the 31-year-old, who beat Ronnie O'Sullivan in the last 16, continued his fine form in Brentwood as he opened up a 7-3 lead before being hauled back.

The 2019 world champion Trump had a new tip fitted to his cue for the evening session and his fortunes changed.

"When I was 7-3 up I missed a blue in the middle pocket and Judd came back like a monster," said Zhang.

"I'm still really happy with this week for myself."
