Ali Carter produced a third successive comeback victory to beat Mark Selby and reach the final of the Shanghai Masters.

The 46-year-old will meet either world champion Xhao Xintong or world number two Kyren Wilson in Sunday's final, with the winner to receive £210,000.

Carter trailed four-time world champion Selby 8-6 midway through the evening session on Friday, but fought back to claim a 10-8 success.

The world number 17 came from 5-2 down to beat both Mark Williams and Xiao Guodong 6-5 in previous rounds.

Selby was on the verge of victory on Friday but spurned a blue in the 15th frame and Carter took full advantage, recording breaks of 83, 62 and 79 in consecutive frames.

"At 8-6 down he [Selby] missed a blue and it gave me a glimmer of hope," said Carter.

"It was very pleasing to get over the line with a one visit. I've been 5-2 down twice and 8-6 here. I've been looking to go home and move my flight forward. I shouldn't be here now really."

Carter was not set to play in the competition he last won in 2010, but invited to replace Mark Allen after the Northern Irishman withdrew because of personal reasons.
