Poole Pirates rider Chris Holder suffered a fractured left hip, fractured left shoulder and fractured right heel in their Elite League meeting at Coventry on Friday night.

The Australian's injuries, sustained in a high speed crash in the last heat, forced the meeting to be abandoned.

The 25-year-old, who was crowned world champion last October, had surgery on his heel on Saturday morning.

He tweeted:, external "Not in real good shape at the moment, but I'll be back."

Poole team manager Neil Middleditch added: "I love speedway, but sometimes I just hate it.

"Speedy recovery, champ."
