Belle Vue Aces finally held their first meet at the National Speedway Stadium, 54 days after it was due to open.

The Elite League side had to cancel the grand opening of the £8m venue because of concerns over track safety.

And the Aces were forced to postpone four subsequent fixtures before finally starting life at their new home with a 50-40 loss to Swindon.

"It's been really frustrating for these past seven or eight weeks," said chief executive David Gordon

He told North West Tonight: "It's frustrating for the fans, the riders and the management but its is all behind us now and we're looking forward to the future.

"The problems we've had on turns three and four were sadly avoidable problems but the stadium is a fantastic stadium and the track, we hope, will be if not one of the best tracks in Europe, then the world."
