BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year 2013 nominations close

Nominations have now closed for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year.

Last year the award was won by 15-year-old swimmer Josef Craig after he became Britain's youngest gold medallist at the 2012 Paralympics.

The winner will be announced at the 60th awards ceremony at the First Direct Arena in Leeds on 15 December.

The age limit for the award has been extended to those aged 17 and under on 1 January 2013 and a panel will decide a winner from the shortlisted nominees.

Awarded to an outstanding young sportsperson, nominations are made to the BBC and by sports governing bodies via the Youth Sport Trust.

Previous winners include Tom Daley, Andy Murray, Wayne Rooney and Ellie Simmonds.

Phil Chamberlain, director of policy and communications at the Youth Sport Trust, said: "The BBC's Young Sports Personality of the Year Award is the perfect way to celebrate the wonderful achievements of the most talented young sportsmen and women.

"I am sure the award will be hotly contested once again this year and judging by those who have picked up the trophy previously, the winner will have an exciting future ahead of them."
