Madeline Perry clinched her fifth Irish Open title by beating Guyana's Nicolette Fernandes in the final in Dublin on Saturday afternoon.

Banbridge woman Perry, 35, had to battle hard before earning a 11-5, 11-9, 8-11, 11-3 win over the sixth seed.

"Winning in Ireland obviously means a lot to me," said top seed and world number 11 Perry after her victory.

Perry, a former world number three, will be back in action at next week's European Team Championships.

The Northern Irishwoman had defeated Welsh player Deon Saffrey in four games in Friday evening's semi-final at Fitzwilliam.

Perry is currently 11th in the world rankings but was third in the world ratings as recently as last May.

In Saturday's men's final in Dublin, Malaysia's Nafiizwam Adnan defeated Egypt's Omar Abdel Meguid 13-11, 8-11, 11-7 11-2 in a 57-minute contest.
