Michael Jamieson and Sophie Allen secured Britain's first podium finishes of the 2013 World Cup with silver medals in Moscow on Saturday.

Scotland's Jamieson finished behind Russian Viatcheslav Sinkevich in the 200m breaststroke final while England's Allen lost out to Hungary's Katinka Hosszu in the women's 200m individual medley final.

Allen earlier finished fifth in the 100m breaststroke final, a race that saw Lithuanian teenager Ruta Meilutyte set a new world record of 1:02:36.

The Plymouth-based 16-year-old, who took 0.34 secs off the short-course record set by American Rebecca Soni in 2009, now holds three world records.

Moscow is the second of eight meets in the 2013 World Cup, external series, following events in Eindhoven and Berlin in August. The series concludes in Beijing next month.

Allen, who was also eighth and last in the 100m butterfly final, will be back in the pool on Sunday to contest heats in the 50m breaststroke, 200m butterfly, 200m breaststroke and 100m individual medley.

Fellow Briton - and Meilutyte's Plymouth Leander team-mate - Ben Proud finished seventh in the final of the 50m butterfly, a race won by South African Roland Schoeman.

And there was further success for South Africa as Olympic and Commonwealth gold medallist Chad Le Clos won the 200m butterfly final.
