Glasgow 2014: O'Connor expecting "relentless" schedule

Siobhan-Marie O'Connor has claimed three gold medals at this week's British swimming meet in Manchester

Olympian Siobhan-Marie O'Connor could compete in up to six events at the Commonwealth Games as she bids to win a first major international medal.

The English 18-year-old won the 100m and 200m freestyle titles and 200m individual medley gold at this week's British swimming meet in Manchester.

She also won 100m butterfly silver at this year's GB Championships and may be named in up to three relays in Glasgow.

"It's going to be relentless," O'Connor told BBC Sport.

"I'll definitely do two relays and two individual events, then there's the potential for one more of each."

The teenager continued: "I want to do as many events as I can, because every race is another chance [of a medal] but I have to be wise, find the right balance and not push it too far."

Although other home nations have already revealed which events their selected swimmers will compete in at Glasgow 2014, Team England will not announce their decision until next month.

At 16, O'Connor became the youngest swimmer selected for Team GB at the London 2012 Olympics - where she finished 21st in the 100m breaststroke.

The three-time European Junior champion then came eighth at last year's senior World Championships in the 200m individual medley, but has made significant progress over the following 12 months.

The Bath-based teen currently holds the second quickest times in the world this year for a Commonwealth swimmer in both the 200m individual medley (2:09:63) and 200m freestyle (1:56.59) events.

"This is probably the first meet I'll be going to where I'm in with a chance for medals, so it's going to be really exciting and something I'm looking forward to," she told BBC Sport.

"I would love to swim everything if I could but I just can't."
