Australian Open: Colin Fleming & Jamie Murray out of men's doubles

Colin Fleming and Jamie Murray will "rethink" their men's doubles partnership following their first-round exit at the Australian Open.

The Scots failed to shine in Melbourne, going down 7-5 7-5 to German Michael Kohlmann and Finn Jarkko Nieminen.

"I don't think either of us did ourselves justice in our performance," Fleming told BBC Scotland.

"It didn't quite happen for us unfortunately," added Murray.

Fleming's regular doubles partner Ross Hutchins was diagnosed with cancer in December and Fleming partnered Brazilian Bruno Soares to victory in the Heineken Open title earlier this month.

Fleming then teamed up with fellow Scot Murray at the Australian Open, however, the first-round exit casts doubt over their future.

"It's a big setback for us because we wanted to have a good run here that would've given us a boost and allowed us to play more of the bigger tournaments coming up," Fleming said.

"So, it was a bit of a blow and we need to have a rethink, see where we are in the rankings, and then make a decision.

"It was a match that we thought we could win but, forgetting the result, I don't think either of us did ourselves justice in our performance.

"That's the first thing you look for when you go out on the court, to perform, and then with the result, whatever happens you can live with it. It was a disappointing day really."
