Aegon Classic: Johanna Konta beats Misaki Doi in Birmingham

British number one Johanna Konta beat Japan's Misaki Doi in straight sets to reach the second round of the Aegon Classic in Birmingham.
Konta won 7-6 (7-3) 6-1 and will face Belgian Yanina Wickmayer, who defeated former world number one Caroline Wozniacki 6-4 6-7 (5-7) 6-2.
Play was cancelled shortly after 18:00 BST on Thursday because of rain.
Briton Heather Watson's second-round match with Czech Barbora Strycova will be moved to Friday.
Two-time Wimbledon winner Petra Kvitova went out, losing 6-4 4-6 6-3 to Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.
Czech fifth seed Kvitova, 26, is the world number 11 but was beaten by a player ranked 27 places below her.
Defending champion Angelique Kerber of Germany was serving at 6-5 down in the first set against Australia's Daria Gavrilova when play was suspended.
