Wimbledon 2018: Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid reach wheelchair doubles final

Hewett and Reid have enjoyed plenty of success together

Britain's Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid remained on course to retain their Wimbledon wheelchair doubles title with a thrilling semi-final win.

The pair, who are attempting to win a third title in a row, beat Argentina's Gustavo Fernandez, and Shingo Kunieda of Japan 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-3).

They will face Belgium's Joachim Gerard and Sweden's Stefan Olsson in Saturday's final.

They beat French top seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer 6-1 3-6 7-5.

"It was a really high-quality doubles match and obviously we are both really buzzing to get the win," said Reid.

Hewett added: "There were times in the match where we just lacked a little bit of intensity and aggression on the court but when we stepped up to the ball and really took it on that's when we won our games."

British women's number one Lucy Shuker and her partner Sabine Ellerbrock of Germany will have to wait until Saturday to finish their doubles semi-final.

The pair are 3-1 up in the decider against second seeds Marjolein Buis and Aniek van Koot.

Earlier, Hewett missed out on a place in the wheelchair singles final as he lost to defending champion Olsson.

Olsson had won only two of their previous 10 meetings but the Swede is an accomplished player on grass and used his slice to good effect to come through 6-2 6-4.

His will face Fernandez in a repeat of last year's final after the Argentine beat Gerard 6-1 4-6 6-2.
