Britons Gordon Reid and Alfie Hewett won their fourth successive US Open men's wheelchair doubles title with a 6-4 6-1 win over French second seeds Stephane Houdet and Nicolas Peifer.

There were four breaks of serve early in the first set before Hewett's angled forehand winner saw the top seeds break to love to take the 10th game and set.

The pair broke twice more in the second set en route to their eighth Slam.

Andy Lapthorne and Australian Dylan Alcott won the quad doubles title.

The pair defeated Dutchman Sam Schroder and American David Wagner 3-6 6-4 (10-8) inside the Louis Armstrong Stadium. It was the Briton's fourth consecutive doubles title at Flushing Meadows, and his second with 29-year-old Alcott.

Earlier, the Middlesex-born player was knocked out of the men's quad singles with a 6-2 6-1 defeat by Schroder.

After their wheelchair doubles win, Reid said: "It's an amazing feeling. These are unusual times. It's been six months since we last had the opportunity to compete.

"A massive thanks to Alfie. It's now a few in the bag and I hope it's not the last."

There could be more success for Britain on the final day, with Hewett looking to defend his singles titles against top seed Shingo Kunieda of Japan.

And Jordanne Whiley will be looking to win her first US Open doubles title since 2014. The Birmingham-born 28-year-old and Japanese partner Yui Kamiji will play singles champion Diede de Groot and fellow Dutchwoman Marjolein Buis in the women's final.
