What is the new US Open mixed doubles format?
- Published
The 2025 US Open will start with a new stand-alone mixed doubles championship on 19-20 August.
Sixteen pairs will compete for the title, with seven teams receiving direct entry based on their combined singles ranking. The rest got wildcards.
Emma Raducanu is set to join forces with Wimbledon runner-up Carlos Alcaraz, as men's number one Jannik Sinner teams up with Katerina Siniakova.
Just four games will be required to win a set in matches before the final, with no-advantage scoring (four points will be needed to win a game) and 10-point match tie-breaks instead of a third set throughout.
The two-day competition will be held at the Arthur Ashe and Louis Armstrong stadiums.

What is the controversy?
US Open organisers were heavily criticised after announcing that the mixed doubles competition would be a stand-alone event before the Grand Slam begins on 24 August.
Last year's mixed doubles winners Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori described the scheduling change as a "profound injustice" in a joint statement in February.
"Making decisions just following the logic of profit is profoundly wrong in some situations," they added.
But organisers said the move was to encourage top singles players to participate in the mixed doubles.
They said "excitement is high among the game's stars who have already expressed intent to compete" in the new format.
Great Britain's Jack Draper said: "I think it's a good format to get prepared for the US Open and having a shot at playing with another top player."
