Jersey's Dan Halksworth won his first Island Games triathlon gold medal.

The 29-year-old, who raced at last summer's Commonwealth Games and is a professional Ironman racer, beat James Travers of Guernsey by five minutes.

Jersey also won team gold in the men's event, with Tom Perchard taking bronze and Michael Charlton in seventh place.

Halksworth said: "It was pretty special. I've achieved a few things in my life and won a few medals, but being here was incredible."

He added: "I nearly cried a few times around the course, it was just amazing with fantastic support."

In the women's event, Kariana Ottoson from the Faroe Islands took gold ahead of Jersey's Jo Gorrod and Sam Lee, who took silver and bronze.

Jersey won the women's team event after Arlene Lewis came in 12th.
