Britain's Kate Waugh won the overall women's Super League Triathlon title after finishing second in the final race of the season in Saudi Arabia.

Waugh, 24, was 11 seconds behind France's Cassandre Beaugrand but, crucially, 10 seconds ahead of title rival Jeanne Lehair, who was third.

She finished level with Luxembourg's Lehair on 44 points but claimed the title due to her better finish in Neom.

GB's Alex Yee was third in the men's grand final to finish third overall.

The 25-year-old Olympic silver medallist moved ahead of British team-mate Jonny Brownlee, who had a chance to win the overall title but dropped down to fifth in the standings after finishing ninth on the day.

Waugh, the 2022 world under-23 champion, picked up $50,000 (£41,000) as overall winner, picking up the baton from Britain's Georgia Taylor-Brown, who was the women's Super League champion the previous two seasons.

"Going into the last round, coming out of the swim, my legs felt so heavy and I thought 'this is going to be a real fight' but I just kept reminding myself how badly I wanted to win this," said Waugh.

"My form was absolutely gone in the last 400m of the run, I was just trying to move my legs as fast as possible. So yes, I am absolutely over the moon."

Fellow Brits Olivia Mathias and Sophie Coldwell were fifth and sixth in the overall standings, while reigning world champion Beth Potter, who was unable to compete in the season's final race due to injury, came 10th.

Meanwhile, Britain's Sam Dickinson took bronze at a Triathlon World Cup event in Tongyeong, South Korea.
