Whitehead on 'emotion' of completing 100th marathon

Two-time Paralympic sprint champion Richard Whitehead has described to BBC East Midlands Today the "emotion" he felt after completing his challenge to run 100 marathons.

The 49-year-old from Nottinghamshire ran his first marathon in New York in 2004, and earlier this month - 21 years and a glittering track career later - he returned to the Big Apple for his milestone event.

What was his 100th career marathon was also the 20th he has done this year alone.

Whitehead explained that for every step of the way he was motivated to show that "anything is possible".

"I've had challenges where I've had to run through illness, and had situations where I've broken components of my prosthetic and I've had to continue to the finish," he said.

"New York was my fourth back-to-back marathon. I really wanted to push myself to the limits.

"It was emotional."
