Boxing: Welshman Lee Selby ready to win European title

Welshman Lee Selby says he will add the vacant European Featherweight title to his British crown when he fights Rendall Munroe at Cardiff's Motorpoint Arena.

The Barry-born fighter will also defend his British title in the Welsh capital on 1 February.

Selby, 26, has won his last 13 professional bouts.

"I am really excited, it is a massive opportunity for me to add the European title to my collection," said Selby.

"I have been tipped by a few boxing pundits and I believe I can be a world champion.

"I am always confident going into a fight, whoever I am fighting, because I believe I can beat anyone.

"He [Munroe] is a strong pressure fighter and he is going to keep coming and he is going to try and wear me down, but I have excellent fitness myself.

"So I will be able to maintain the pace, and up the pace and outbox him and eventually stop him."

Selby defended his British and Commonwealth titles with a landslide points victory over Ryan Walsh back in October.

Selby won the Londsdale belt outright to post his 17th win in 18 fights after comprehensively outworking Walsh.

Newport's Gavin Rees will fight with Cardiff's former British Super Featherweight champion Gary Buckland, who steps up to Lightweight for the clash.

Olympic gold medallist Anthony Joshua fights for the fourth time as a professional on the bill, with Aberdare's Dorian Darch his opponent.

The undercard also features Erick Ochieng v Dale Evans, Welsh middleweight Kerry Hope, Liverpool's Thomas Stalker, Prizefighter Light Welterweight champion Chris Jenkins, Jason Cook and Tony Pace.
