Team GB: Seren Bundy-Davies not worried by 'new' Britons

Welsh 400m runner Seren Bundy-Davies says she does not fear foreign-born competitors declaring for Team GB
Five athletes, including 22-year-old 400m runner Montene Speight, from outside the UK have been made eligible to represent Britain.
"I could potentially lose my spot to someone that's never run in the UK," said Bundy-Davies.
"But you've got to be confident that you can beat anyone that you're stepping on the line with."
She told Radio Wales Sport: "If it's someone that's competed for GB for 10 years or not even competed before, I think you've got to be confident in your own ability that you're going to make the team.
"It's important to focus on yourself."
Who are the new Brits? | |||
---|---|---|---|
Event | Born | How do they qualify? | |
Zharnel Hughes, 19 | 100m | Anguilla | Has held British nationality since birth |
Cindy Ofili, 20 | 100m hurdles | United States | Dual nationality through her mother, along with sister and GB hurdler Tiffany Porter |
Shante Little, 22 | 400m hurdles | United States | Holds British nationality through her Colchester-born mother. |
Montene Speight, 22 | 400m | United States | Holds British nationality |
Victoria Dronsfield, 24 | High jump | Sweden | Holds British nationality through her father, who was born in England. |
Hurdler Lucy Hatton and world indoor 60m champion Richard Kilty have both expressed their concern at the athletes being approved to represent Britain.
But Bundy-Davies, who won bronze in the women's 400m and relay silver at the European Indoor Championships in March, is focused on her own career.
After securing her first major international medal, she believes she is capable of securing an individual spot at the 2016 Olympics in Rio.
"Before this year I probably would have set my target as the relay squad," Bundy-Davies told BBC Wales Sport.
"But considering how much I've progressed indoors alone, I really hope I can reach the standards to go individually for the Olympics next year.
"It's a real target of mine to go individually now. I think I'm good enough to finish in the top two at the trials next year."
