Helen Jenkins: Welsh triathlete will give everything for Rio 2016

Double world triathlon champion Helen Jenkins says she will be "fighting with everything I've got" to secure a place at Rio 2016.

Fellow Welsh triathlete Non Stanford and Vicky Holland have secured their places at next year's Olympic Games.

Jenkins, 31, was world champion in 2008 and 2011 but has been hampered by injury in recent seasons.

"Getting a place in the Olympics is my complete focus at the moment," Jenkins said.

"I've had a lot of problems injury-wise and my husband [Marc Jenkins], who's also my coach, wasn't well so we had to get through that.

"I'm just going to put a line under this year and prepare for next April."

Stanford and Holland sealed their places in Rio by finishing in the top three at the World Triathlon Grand Final in Chicago in September, in which Jenkins finished 11th.

Jenkins was fifth at the 2012 London Olympics but missed much of 2013 and the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with a foot injury.

Commonwealth champion Jodie Stimpson is also vying for the final spot in the British women's triathlon team.

"We must have the hardest team to make. We've got four of the top girls in the world trying to make a three-spot team," Jenkins added.

Jenkins said she had no plans to retire if she failed to secure Olympic qualification and has also set her sights on the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

"I haven't thought much past April. I'll make decisions after that," Jenkins said.
