Wales' men's and women's hockey teams have had their places confirmed at next year's Commonwealth Games.

It is only the second time both teams have qualified since 1998.

They secured their spot after both reached the top 10 in the latest Commonwealth rankings.

The men will play Pakistan, Malaysia, India and England, while the women have been drawn in the same pool as India, England, South Africa and Malaysia.

"It's just fantastic," said forward Lisa Daley. "We're really looking forward to it.

"It means so much because of all the hard work - juggling your job with the training - it's a huge achievement."

The men's team won promotion to European hockey's top division in the summer and climbed eight places in the latest world rankings.

The women finished fourth in the EuroHockey B Division Championships in Cardiff in August.
