Sochi 2014: British skier Rowan Cheshire knocked unconscious

British halfpipe skier Rowan Cheshire has been taken to hospital after being knocked unconscious during training at the Winter Olympics.

The 18-year-old from Stoke-on-Trent fell heavily on her face at the Rosa Khutor Extreme Park in Sochi.

Cheshire, who won her first World Cup event in January, was spending Sunday night in hospital, Team GB confirmed.

She is due to compete on Thursday but a decision has not yet been made as to whether she can make her Olympic debut.

A Team GB statement said: "She has a concussion and will stay at a local hospital overnight for further evaluation."

The warm temperatures, which have reached 15C in the mountains above Sochi, have forced organisers to cancel and reschedule training.

While she practised on Friday and Sunday, Saturday's session did not go ahead in order to preserve the pipe.

Snowboarders have already competed on it and complained about its shape and condition, leading to changes being made.
