Elise Christie: Skater claims 500m silver in the World Cup in Japan

Britain's short track speed skater Elise Christie has won silver in the 500m at the World Cup in Nagoya, Japan.

Christie, 25, edged out triple Olympic silver medallist Marianne St-Gelais in the semi-finals, but was beaten by China's Fan Kexin in the final.

She tweeted:, external "Woohoo super happy World Cup silver today. Thanks for all the support everyone."

The European Short Track champion won 500m gold and 1000m silver at the World Cup meeting in Toronto in November.

Britain's Charlotte Gilmartin made it through to the B final in the 1500m in Nagoya, finishing second, eighth overall for the distance.

In the men's 500m, Richard Shoebridge was 18th and Paul Stanley finished 32nd, while Joshua Cheetham was 35th in the 1500m.
