Mica McNeill and Adele Nicoll have only made two World Cup appearances together

Brad Hall won his second bobsleigh World Cup silver in as many days after Mica McNeill piloted the women's sled to the same podium place in Latvia.

Hall and brakeman Nick Gleeson finished 0.06 seconds behind Germany.

Earlier, McNeill and Adele Nicoll won their first ever World Cup medal after finishing 0.22 secs behind the United States' sled.

Hall's medal capped a remarkable weekend for GB in Sigulda after he and Greg Cackett won silver on Saturday.

Hall and Gleeson had trailed Francesco Friedrich and Thorsten Margis by 0.06 after the first run, before the Germans matched their second run exactly to ensure they held onto gold.

"It's another great result and another race where we've proved we're serious Olympic medal contenders," said Hall.

"We wanted to be consistently challenging for medals this season and that's exactly what we're doing."

In the women's race earlier on Sunday, McNeill and Nicoll were third after the first run but moved up on the second run after Russia's Nadezhda Sergeeva crashed.

Wales' Nicoll, also a shot putter, was making only her second World Cup start.

It marked GB's first women's World Cup medal in 13 years.

"It's an absolutely brilliant way to the start the new year with our first ever World Cup podium finish," said Olympian McNeill, whose previous World Cup best was fourth place alongside Montell Douglas in 2019 and 2020.

"We're still on the journey to qualifying for the Olympic Games but we're feeling optimistic heading into next week's race."

Nicoll added: "I'm just so happy that I could help Mica get such a good result. I feel so confident sliding behind her and I'm glad to have given her the start she needed to get on to the podium."
