Great Britain's Dave Ryding secured the seventh World Cup podium of his career with a third-place finish in the slalom in Madonna di Campiglio, Italy.

The 37-year-old, in his 15th World Cup season, briefly topped the standings after a brilliant second run.

But he was eventually knocked into third by France's Noel Clement and winner Marco Schwarz of Austria.

It means Ryding began and ended 2023 with a World Cup podium finish after wining silver at Kitzbuehel in January.

He has also now finished on the podium in a World Cup race at least once in the past four seasons.

Schwarz's first win of the campaign was enough to move him top of the overall slalom standings.
