Adele Nicoll and Kya Placide have won gold in the women's bobsleigh at the Europa Cup in Switzerland.

The Welsh pair beat their nearest rivals Belgium by 0.61 seconds across two runs in St Moritz on Friday, with GB team-mates Nikki McSweeney and Willa Gibb fourth.

It is Great Britain's first Europa Cup gold medal since 2017.

Nicoll, 27, also took silver in the monobob event the previous day, her first medal in the event.

Placide, 19, made her debut in the bobsleigh last month alongside Nicoll, with the pair taking bronze in Lillehammer, Norway.

Both bobsledders also compete in athletics, with Placide a sprinter and Nicoll a shot putter - an event in which she won gold at the 2022 and 2023 British Championships.

The Europa Cup circuit features eight races for both bobsleigh and skeleton.
