Bakery steps up to save Liberation Day hampers

A bakery has stepped up to make more than 1,000 Guernsey biscuits for Liberation Day packages after broken ovens left organisers short.
Guernsey Hamper Company issued a plea to islanders for help after ovens at Saint Bay Guernsey stopped working.
Chantal Rautenbach, who runs the company, said she was "relieved and delighted" after Senners Bakery offered to make the goods and had "saved the day".
About 600 Guernsey biscuits need to be baked by the end of the day on Tuesday, Ms Rautenbach said.
She said a further 500 will be needed by the end of Wednesday.
The hampers will be given to islanders aged 80 or older who stayed in Guernsey during the occupation or who were evacuated.
"The Liberation care packages are really important and something I have loved doing over the years," she said.
"I can’t wait to thank the guys in person when I collect the first 600 this afternoon."
According to Explore Guernsey, a Guernsey biscuit is actually a savoury item, external, and "more like a bread roll than a biscuit".
