  1. Stats to win a Premier League titlepublished at 16:53 20 May

    • Manchester City are the first side in the entire history of the English top-flight to win the title in four consecutive seasons. Four sides have won the title in three consecutive seasons (Huddersfield, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United twice).

    • Only Manchester United (13) have won more titles in the Premier League era than Manchester City's eight.

    • Pep Guardiola is only the fourth man to win as many as six English top-flight titles, while only Alex Ferguson (13) has ever won more Premier League titles than the Spaniard.

    • Guardiola has won the title in 12 of his 15 seasons as a top-flight manager across spells in charge of Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He has now won a title in four consecutive seasons for the very first time.

    • Manchester City have gone the entire Premier League season unbeaten at home for the first time since the 2011-12 campaign, and it is only the fourth time ever they have done so in the top-flight (also in 1904-05 and 1920-21).

    • Manchester City ended the season with a run of 23 unbeaten Premier League matches – their second longest unbeaten run in Premier League history, behind a 30-game run between April 2017 and January 2018.

    • Since Pep Guardiola joined Manchester City in 2016-17, they have picked up 59 more points than any other Premier League side and won 29 more matches than anyone else.

  2. Man Utd's worst season in over 30 years published at 16:51 20 May

Manchester United graphic that compares this seasons stats to last year. They have lost more games, gained less points and conceded more goals

Manchester United's season has been a flop.

Erik ten Hag's side end the campaign eighth - their lowest top-flight finish since 1989-90.

They have gone from the highs of qualifying for Champions League football last season, to missing out on European competition completely unless they win the FA Cup.

    So what went wrong?

A leaky defence is probably the best place to start.

United conceded 58 goals in this campaign - 15 more than last season - and kept just nine clean sheets.

They faced 667 shots, including blocks, in the Premier League alone and 210 of those were on target.

Their poor defensive display, however, has not been helped by the consistent stream of injuries that have plagued Ten Hag's side.

At various stages of the season, he has been without Harry Maguire, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, Jonny Evans, Willy Kambwala, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Victor Lindelof.

Left-back Tyrell Malacia, who made 39 appearances last season, did not feature at all and there has been no update on the 24-year-old's recovery from his knee injury.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Alan Shearer said: "They have been really poor in every department.

"They have the FA Cup final next weekend, but in terms of the league it has been a disaster."

Regarding goals scored, United were only one short of equalling last season's tally of 58. But their highest goal scorer Rasmus Hojlund does not even make the top 10 scorers in the league.

They attempted 550 shots over the course of the season, the seventh most in the league, yet only 193 of those were on target.

But it is the 14 defeats that have stung Manchester United, compared to last season's more respectable tally of nine.

So, what next for the Red Devils?

If major honours are to return to the club it will need to be a big summer for the club under new minority owners Ineos.

Players could be moved on to make way for fresh talent and reduce the wage bill.

But the biggest question mark remains over Ten Hag. Will the Dutchman still be in charge come August?

  3. 'Mentality' helped City win the title over Arsenalpublished at 15:27 20 May

Rodri believes Manchester City's mentality helped them to win the Premier League over Arsenal.

Speaking to Australian channel Optus Sport on how they won the league, the Spaniard said: "I think, to be honest, it's the mentality.

"Great players are all over the leagues and clubs. Arsenal also, they did an unbelievable season but the difference was in here," he said that as he pointed to his head.

He continued: "When they faced us here at the Etihad, I saw these guy who don't want to beat us - they just want to draw.

"That mentality - we wouldn't do it the same way and we catch it. If you give us one point we will win the last seven or eight games, even with how tough it is. So I think it's in terms of mentality."

"It's not easy to implement this - but every season the manager and players find a way to do it."

  6. 'I have never dreaded a final so much... but you never know'published at 12:09 20 May

    Your views image

After victory in their final league game of the season against Brighton, we asked for your views on Manchester United's FA Cup final against Manchester City on Saturday.

Here are some of your thoughts:

Mark: Not really much chance of victory and I will be really glad to put this season to bed once again. Most of the season has been quite frustrating and we really must do better.

Oladipupo: Not confident but gives us a little bit of hope and momentum going to the FA Cup final against City. If we play like that in the first half against City, and with the form Phil Foden is in, we could get swamped. However, I believe we can cause City problems at Wembley and win the game.

Dave: A very poor team this season. They had no plan and very little leadership. I’m afraid they will be thrashed next week at Wembley. City are just out of our league. We should have lost in the semi-final to Coventry anyway!

Adrian: I really fear what could happen in the final. Having a few players back is a plus but how match fit will they be? City have the ability to tear us apart if they really want to. I think we need a miracle.

Christine: Not at all confident in winning the FA Cup. I would be thankful if we don't get beaten by a cricket score. United have players coming back from injury but I do hope that Ten Hag sticks with players like Amrabat and Diallo. They deserve an FA Cup spot. Many others don't - and they know who they are.

Richie: I have never dreaded a final so much. But... you never know.

  7. Man City quartet in Opta's team of seasonpublished at 11:51 20 May

Opta's Premier League team of the season: Emiliano Martinez; Ben White, William Saliba, Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake; Rodri, Declan Rice; Martin Odegaard, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer; Ollie Watkins

Manchester City quartet Manuel Akanji, Nathan Ake, Rodri and Phil Foden have been included in Opta's Premier League team of the season.

They were pivotal as City were crowned champions for the fourth successive year.

    Akanji

No centre-back was involved in more open-play sequences that ended in a goal in the Premier League this season than Akanji (17).

    Ake

Ake won 66% of his duels in the Premier League this season, the highest rate of any City player to contest at least 100.

    Rodri

The Spanish midfielder made more ball carries (799) and carried the ball a further distance (8,088 metres) than any other player in the Premier League this season.

    Foden

As well as enjoying his best Premier League season in terms of both goals (19) and assists (eight), Foden scored more goals from outside the box than any other player in the competition this term (six).

  8. 'It's as if they don't understand expectation'published at 09:15 20 May

Former Premier League midfielder Leon Osman says he is hugely impressed with Manchester City's continuous ability to cope with expectation, after Sunday's 3-1 win over West Ham confirmed a fourth successive title for Pep Guardiola's side.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live's Football Daily podcast: "When you put players of this quality together, they have a real belief in each other that they can perform for each other and they won't let each other down.

"The expectation is what's difficult - to go and do it again - and it's as if this team don't understand expectation. It's as if their own expectation is more important to them. They just keep on delivering.

"They keep on competing at the very highest level and I can't speak highly enough of how difficult that is for any set of players, regardless of how good they are."

  9. 'Six titles at the age of 23? Unbelievable'published at 08:50 20 May

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer has been praising Pep Guardiola's Manchester City side for the "standard they set", after they became the first team in top-flight history to win the league in four consecutive seasons.

"They are unbelievable - the standards they set, their performances week after week and year after year," said Shearer on Match of the Day.

"To keep going again - when other teams are trying almost everything to get back to their level - to keep performing at the level they do as players and Pep, because he is the one who has to motivate them and keep them going.

"It is a remarkable achievement. They have played some unbelievable football."

Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright highlighted 23-year-old Phil Foden's performance, after the midfielder scored two goals to claim what is already his sixth title: "He was fantastic. He was very, very difficult to pick up - with the form he is in, you wouldn't be able to pick him up anyway.

"His movement between the lines, his touches, his running off the ball - he just doesn't get picked up and he is able to just run through people.

"When you are playing in this kind of purple patch, sometimes you don't even need to make the run, it just comes to you. He was getting too much time and space.

"This is how we want to see this man playing. This is what you are hoping you are going to see from England, in that number 10 role."

Shearer added: "In that number 10 role, he is unplayable at times. He is that good.

"Six titles at the age of 23? Unbelievable."

Manchester City still have 115 charges for alleged financial breaches hanging over them but former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer does not believe that takes anything away from the achievements of the manager and his players.

"No, not for these players it shouldn't - it is not their fault," he said on Match of the Day. "They have just got to go out and perform on the football pitch.

"The club will have to answer the charges, but those players have been superb and you cannot take anything away from what they have achieved."

Ex-Arsenal forward Ian Wright added: "The uncertainty that comes around it is unfair on the legacy these players are building.

"I was watching them again in that Treble documentary. You watch them and their drive and determination to try to do what they have done is unbelievable.

"It is unfair that they have got all of this wrapped around them, so the sooner they can get that result the better."

Shearer also discussed Pep Guardiola's comment on being closer to leaving Manchester City than completing another seven years of service at the club.

The Spanish manager's contract is due to expire at the end of next season, but Shearer does not think Guardiola will be going anywhere if he is still winning trophies.

"You can understand his comments. We saw what Jurgen Klopp has done because of how difficult the job is, the pressure that you are under, and the toll it has on you as an individual," he said.

"Everyone else will be wishing he has gone but, while he is still winning, he will be here to stay for a bit longer."
