Police play down Wrexham Facebook party

Police have played down reports of a party in the Wrexham area that was advertised via Facebook.

More than 2,500 people had signed up to attend an unnamed location in the town on Friday night.

But North Wales Police posted its own message on the site warning revellers they could be at risk at the outdoor event.

Hours before it was due, the Facebook page was removed. Police said a party was held, but without disturbance.

Some had suggested the "massive" planned event was a hoax.

Police had said they had had no official notice so the usual "safeguards" for "a large gathering" were not in place.

Last year, it was reported around 1,500 revellers descended on Rhyl one Saturday in January to celebrate a mass reunion which was organised on Facebook.
