Detectives hunting the killer of a man shot dead at traffic lights are hoping to examine CCTV from the area.

Paul Pike was in a red van in Crosby Road North, Waterloo, Merseyside, on Saturday night when a gunman opened fire from a silver Audi TT.

The 23-year-old, from Netherley, was pronounced dead at the scene. His girlfriend received minor injuries.

Merseyside Police have said Mr Pike was known to them and they believe it was a targeted shooting.

However, detectives have said the motive for the killing remained "unclear".

It is thought the silver Audi pulled alongside the red Ford Transit at 2320 BST on Saturday.

Shots were fired into the van before the Audi turned and came back towards the van, firing more shots.

The Audi was then driven off and abandoned in Fairfield Close, off Endbutt Lane, Crosby, and set alight.

Many people who were inside the Liver pub, near the traffic lights, ran outside to try to help Mr Pike and his girlfriend.

Detectives are appealing for any of the customers who have not come forward to contact them.

Patrols have been increased and detectives are seeking CCTV from the area to help the investigation.
