Nottinghamshire parachute death inquest opens

Inquests into the deaths of two people whose parachutes became tangled on a routine jump have been opened.

Brian Laithwaite, 65, and Emma Bramley, 31, were parachuting at Langar Airfield in Nottinghamshire on Friday afternoon.

They were using separate parachutes when they became tangled, causing them to plummet to the ground.

Mr Laithwaite, from Wigan in Lancashire, and Ms Bramley, from Nottingham, have both been described as experienced parachutists.

Inquests into their deaths were opened at Nottingham Coroner's Court.

Stephanie Haskey, assistant deputy coroner for Nottinghamshire, said: "A full inquiry needs to be carried out and that will now take place.

"It remains for me to send my sympathies to the families involved.

"As soon as we can resume the inquests in to these two deaths, we will."
