Walkers take part in 48-mile trek around Jersey

The 48-mile challenge began in the early hours of Saturday

More than 1,200 people have taken part in walking 48 miles around the coast of Jersey in the Itex-Rotary Walk 2010.

A further 200 people did a smaller section - as part of the Lieutenant Governor's Walk - which covered more than 13 miles.

Walkers set off at 0300 BST on Saturday from Elizabeth Quay Ferry Terminal in St Helier.

Organisers said they hoped the event, which is in its 19th year, would raise more than £120,000 for charity.

The walk has raised £1,416,578, since 1991 for Jersey charities.
