The new Nimrod MRA4 will be arriving at RAF Kinloss in Moray within weeks rather than months, the Ministry of Defence has said.

A delay until October was announced last week by the MoD in a parliamentary answer to local MP and SNP defence spokesman Angus Robertson.

However the MOD has told the BBC that the replacement Nimrods are still scheduled to arrive this summer.

The aircraft is due to replace the 30-year-old MR2, grounded in March.

Dozens of jobs have already been lost at RAF Kinloss due to the withdrawal of the MR2, which was taken out of service a year early.
