Commuters 'happier' with rail service in East Midlands

Passenger satisfaction has increased at East Midlands Trains in the past year according to an independent watchdog.

Passenger Focus said 86% of passengers were satisfied with the service from East Midlands Trains.

The National Passenger Survey asked 1,500 passengers and found that people were satisfied with cleanliness and the way delays were handled.

Other satisfaction results include 88% for East Coast, 85% for CrossCountry and Virgin Trains' 90%.

'Value for money'

East Midlands Trains' overall satisfaction increased five points, the highest result achieved since the start of the franchise in November 2007.

Ashwin Kumar, Passenger Focus rail director, said: "Many of the region's train companies scored better on value for money, following many New Year fares staying the same or even falling as a consequence of the lower inflation rate in mid-2009.

"Particularly good news is that passengers say East Midlands Trains has delivered on their priority of improving value for money (up 7% to 52%) and how well the company handles delays (up an impressive 14% to 51%)."
