Guernsey States consults public on waste disposal

The Public Services Department has promised the widest public consultation Guernsey has ever seen, as it works out its future policy on waste disposal.
It said a series of consultations, seminars and workshops would be held to allow islanders to express their views.
Deputy Scott Ogier, who is leading the process, said it was vital everybody who wanted to got involved.
He said: "We need to consult as widely as we can so that the eventual solution is acceptable to the island."
Deputy Ogier said the island had to be involved in the process: "It's no good secreting yourself away in an ivory tower drawing up this wonderful plan and unveiling it and then finding out it is not acceptable."
The department was charged with drawing up a new strategy for dealing with the island's waste after the previous one was thrown out by the States in February.
The island's current method of landfill at Mont Cuet is due to reach capacity in 2019.
