New plan to protect Bournemouth coastline for 100 years

The stretch of coast to be protected runs from Hurst Spit to Durlston Head

Council chiefs have approved a plan to manage and protect Bournemouth's shoreline for the next 100 years.

The proposal covers the coastline from Hurst Spit to Durlston Head, including Christchurch and Poole harbours.

Maintaining and building new defences are among the plans approved at a meeting on Wednesday.

It will be adopted by New Forest District Council, Christchurch Borough Council, the Borough of Poole and Purbeck District Council.

Councillor Robert Lawton, Bournemouth's cabinet member for environment and transport, said: "In Bournemouth we are proposing to do all we can to ensure that we protect our beautiful coastline for our future generations and leave a lasting legacy."
