Plan for deadline to learn from Guernsey Airport row

Guernsey States may get a deadline to activate recommendations from a report into the airport firefighters' dispute.

The States are due to debate tribunal results into the events of May 2009 when firefighters went on strike.

The tribunal looked at the handling of industrial action and pay negotiations between the Public Sector Remuneration Committee and the airport firefighters.

An amendment is being brought to give the Policy Council a year to take action before reporting back to the States.

Deputy Sean McManus, supported by Deputy Jan Kuttlewasher, is bringing the amendment on behalf of the Scrutiny Committee.

The dispute over firefighters' pay in May last year led to too few staff being available to cover sickness and overtime and as a result some commercial flights were grounded for two days.
