Teenage swimmers saved from rip current in south Devon

The four teenagers got caught in a rip current near Burgh Island

Four teenagers have been rescued from a rip current in Devon.

The youngsters, two boys and two girls all aged 16, were in the sea off Challaborough beach, near Burgh Island, when they got into difficulty.

Brixham Coastguards co-ordinated a rescue and Devon Air Ambulance airlifted one of the group to hospital.

Salcombe inshore lifeboat and Bigbury coastguard rescue team were also involved in the rescue, which happened shortly before 0800 BST.

A helicopter from RMB Chivenor also attended the scene.

Three of the youngsters were treated at the scene by paramedics and the fourth was treated at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth.
