Inverness cobbles reused at Scotland's Housing Expo

Provost Jimmy Gray has welcomed the new use for the cobbles

Granite cobbles uncovered during improvements to Inverness city centre streets will be reused at the site of Scotland's Housing Expo.

The stones date back to 1880 and were overlaid with other road building materials between the world wars.

The cobbles will be used on streets at the expo at Milton of Leys, Inverness.

Backed by the Scottish government and Highland Council, the event in August aims to showcase ground-breaking designs for homes.

Inverness Provost Jimmy Gray welcomed the recycling of the cobbles.

He said: "It's very fitting that a part of the city's history will play a role in Scotland's efforts to shape the future of living in Scotland and the rest of the UK."

Formerly called the Highland Housing Fair, the expo will be held during the whole of August and will feature 52 properties.
