Guernsey primary school children have been given lessons from secondary school students on staying safe online.

Grammar School sixth formers trained to become e-buddies before passing on their knowledge to pupils at St Mary and St Michael Primary School.

Ann Battye, a teacher who sits on the e-safety committee, said children needed to be informed about the risks.

She said revealing personal information and photos could lead to bullying and regrets in later life.

Ms Battye said: "The thing to remember is that serious events like paedophiles are very rare Really what is a lot more common with young people is that they put too much information about themselves on the net.

"They put pictures of themselves online, which they perhaps would not in the future want to be there and of course bullying is an issue.

"We want children just to think about general safety in all aspects of the internet."

The workshops run by the sixth formers followed a pilot scheme that was run at Amherst School earlier in the year.
