La Mare de Carteret Primary School has received a good rating from Ofsted inspectors.

The Guernsey school was rated good in all five categories - Quality of Education; Behaviour and Attitudes; Personal Development and Welfare; Leadership and Management; and Early Years provision.

Inspectors found the school was "highly inclusive" and "positive, warm relationships are a strong feature of the school’s community".

They also found pupils had a "love of reading" and "feel safe and trust adults to listen to them".

'Special place'

In the school's first inspection by Ofsted, external its inspectors found an ambitious curriculum was followed, but in a few subject areas learning needed to be further broken down as it currently hampered some pupils.

Head teacher Alison Elliott said: "We are absolutely delighted that this report recognises the many strengths of our school.

"I would like to thank our children, who make us proud every day and are an important part of what makes La Mare such a special place to be.

"As a school, we look forward to continuing to work in partnership with parents and carers in order to make the improvements necessary to ensure all our children have the best possible start and are able to achieve their full potential."

Deputy Andrea Dudley-Owen, President of the Committee for Education, Sport and Culture, congratulated the school and said it validated the "huge amount of good work".

"External inspections play an important role in both validating good practice and identifying where improvements can be made – this is essential for one of the key priorities of our Education Strategy, which is to deliver high quality learning and excellent outcomes," she said.
