Lambs injured in dog attack as police issue warning

A number of lambs were injured after being chased by a dog

Police have issued a warning to pet owners after a number of lambs were injured in a dog attack.

A dog chased and injured lambs on Mowbreck Lane, Wesham on Monday, in the incident which is known as livestock worrying.

The owner of the dog had since been in contact with the owner of the livestock, Lancashire Police said.

Fylde Police Neighbourhood Team have now issued a warning for all dog owners to keep their pets "under close control on a lead" when in a field with livestock.

A police spokesman said: "Any dog, even one with fantastic recall, has the potential to chase and bite.

"It is important that dog walkers are aware of the injuries even small dogs are capable of causing, the suffering it causes to the animals, but also the financial implications for the farmer."

Livestock worrying is when a dog attacks or chases livestock on agricultural land, resulting in significant injury or suffering and death.
