A man who set fire to his ex-partner's front door after an argument has been jailed for five and a half years.

Ross Young, 45, poured petrol through the letterbox of the property in Stratford-upon-Avon, before setting it alight on 23 April.

The victim put the fire out, but it left her door and floorboards blackened and marked.

Warwickshire Police described the offence as "extremely reckless" and added it had a huge impact on Young's victim.

Young, of The Poplars, in Bidford-on-Avon, was arrested within hours of the attack, police said.

During an initial interview he told officers he started the fire to "shock" and "scare" his former partner.

He was jailed at Warwick Crown Court on Friday after pleading guilty to arson with intent to endanger life.

He was also handed an indefinite restraining order preventing him from contacting his ex.

Det Con Tony Griffin said: "This was an extremely reckless offence, and it was very lucky nobody was injured or worse.

"The incident had a huge impact on the victim, and I hope she can take some comfort from the sentence handed down to Young."
