Eurovision's Katrina to headline Pride in Liverpool
- Published
The UK's last Eurovision Song Contest winner - Katrina Leskanich of Katrina and the Waves - will headline this summer's Pride in Liverpool concert.
Referencing a couple of her best-known hits - including Love Shine A Light which won Eurovision in1997 - LCR Pride Foundation said Katrina would "spread the love and shine a light" on the Liverpool Waterfront main stage on 27 July.
The free-to-attend festival will coincide with the annual March With Pride, which invites LGBT+ communities to both come together in celebration and protest against the prejudices and inequalities they face.
"Pride in Liverpool is a fantastic opportunity to celebrate diversity and acceptance in the Liverpool City Region and show our solidarity with LGBT+ communities across the world," said CEO Andi Herring.
"We are thrilled to be bringing the main stage back for what is going to be the biggest Pride in Liverpool programme yet," added Mr Herring.
"We’re not quite yet over the buzz of [Liverpool hosting] last year’s Eurovision and, following [last] weekend’s fantastic contest in Malmo we can’t wait to continue that magic further with Katrina.
"We are delighted that the festival remains free to attend for everyone and we will continue to prioritise accessibility further than ever before so that everyone can enjoy the day."
