A man has been jailed for 29 years for sexual offences against women and children, including the rape of an eight-year-old girl.

Christopher Johnson, 41, from Birmingham, targeted three children and two women between 2012 and 2023, the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) said.

Among his offences were a total of five counts of rape, and two counts of sexually assaulting a child under 13.

The CPS said his crimes came to light in August 2023 when he was arrested after filming a young girl under a cubicle at a swimming pool.

Johnson's offending also included three counts of making indecent photographs of children, one count of causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, one count of attempted rape, and one count of voyeurism.

There were also two counts of assault by penetration, and a count of sexual assault.

He was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on 17 January after being convicted at the same court last June.

The CPS said the youngest of his victims was eight years old when he raped her.

"Christopher Johnson is a dangerous individual who preyed on vulnerable victims," Cagin Husnu, a senior crown prosecutor at CPS West Midlands, said in a statement.

He praised the "bravery and quick-thinking" of the child at the swimming pool, who alerted her carers, he said, to Johnson recording her as she got changed, which led to him being arrested and more victims coming forward.
