Police name 42-year-old pedestrian killed by car

Police have named a 42-year-old pedestrian who died after he was hit by a car.

Craig Morrow, died after he was struck by a black Volkswagen Golf on the A695 Ryton, between Woodside Lane and Stargate Lane, on Wednesday morning.

The driver of the vehicle stayed at the scene to assist with inquiries and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Northumbria Police said specialist officers have been supporting Mr Morrow's family.

The force’s motor patrols team had already spoken to a number of witnesses, police said, and were still looking for anyone with dashcam or CCTV footage from the area at about 06:10 GMT.

The road was closed in both directions for about five hours on Wednesday.
