Drivers are being urged to plan ahead this weekend if travelling to Reading.

Junction 12 of the M4 will be shut westbound at the Theale Interchange from 21:00 GMT on Friday until 06:00 on Monday due to essential bridge works.

Project manager Nick Axford, of National Highways, said the closure would be "likely to lead to significant delays and congestion in the Reading area".

"Do not travel to Junction 12 as this will lead to the diversion route, taking drivers back towards Hampshire," he said.

He added: “Motorists from Basingstoke heading into Reading on the A33 are also advised to stay on the A33 at junction 11 to continue their journey into the town centre."

The weekend works are weather dependent and drivers are urged to check the National Highways website, external before travelling.
