Ballots open for council and mayoral elections

People can cast their votes between 07:00 BST and 22:00 on Thursday

Polling stations across Bradford have opened as elections take place for local council seats and a regional mayor.

The ruling Labour group at Bradford Council is defending an overall majority of 22, with a third of the total 90 seats being contested.

Labour currently holds 56 seats, with 16 Conservative, eight Greens, five Liberal Democrats and the remainder independents.

There are 17 independent candidates standing across the district in total.

Voters in Bradford will also be making their selections in the West Yorkshire mayoral ballot, with an additional parish council election being held in Ilkley.

People can cast their votes between 07:00 BST and 22:00 on Thursday.

Results will be counted and announced on Friday for the council elections and on Saturday for the mayoral election.
