A prison is expected to almost double in size under government plans.

Work is under way to build two new houseblocks at HMP Channings Wood, in Devon.

The buildings - which will be operational by the end of 2027 - will mean the capacity will increase by 500 places.

The announcement comes as part of the government's plans to create 14,000 prison places nationwide.
